Composite smile makeover in Durban North

Whitening and composite work planned together to change the colour, shape and size of your front teeth.

If more than one thing about your front teeth bothers you, such as the colour, a chip, a gap or an old gold cap, a composite smile makeover deals with them in one plan, in the right order.

What a composite smile makeover can include

Your plan can combine any of these, and each one is also available on its own:

How your composite smile makeover is planned and done

  1. Step 1: Book

Send us a WhatsApp with a day that suits you, and we confirm a time for your consultation.

  2. Step 2: Consultation

Tell us what you'd like to change. We check your teeth and gums, explain what composite and whitening can do for you and plan the order of your visits.

  3. Step 3: Healthy teeth first

A clean, and any treatment for decay or gums, comes before the cosmetic work, at Durban Dental Care.

  4. Step 4: Whitening

If you'd like lighter teeth, whitening comes next, because composite doesn't whiten.

  5. Step 5: Composite work

Composite veneers or bonding go on the front teeth in a shade matched to your whitened teeth, then are shaped and polished.

How it feels

We build composite onto your teeth rather than cutting into them, so there's usually little or no drilling. Whether a tooth needs a numbing injection depends on the tooth, and we'll tell you before we start. Teeth can feel sensitive for a short while after whitening or bonding.

If you're nervous, tell us when you book. We'll have headphones, a blanket and softer lighting ready, with a stress ball to hold if it helps. The rest is on our comfort menu.

Investing in your smile

You can pay for a composite smile makeover by card or cash, or ask about paying in instalments. If your plan includes veneers, read what composite veneers cost.

Why plan your makeover as one

Each veneer and bonded edge is matched to the same shade, so your front teeth look like they belong together.

Composite is shaped directly on your teeth, so there are no moulds to take and no laboratory to wait for.

Composite can be polished, repaired or added to over the years, and we look at it at your regular check-ups.

Who a composite smile makeover suits

It suits adults with healthy teeth and gums whose front teeth are fairly straight.

If a front tooth is missing, ask us about a fibre bridge. Whitening isn't recommended while you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your questions about a composite smile makeover

No. Composite veneers are often part of a makeover, but the makeover is the whole plan: it may combine veneers with whitening, bonding, gold removal or new fillings. Some plans use no veneers at all.

We plan your makeover with you at your consultation and give you the cost of the whole plan there. Medical aid usually doesn't cover cosmetic work.

Bonding usually lasts several years, typically between 3 and 10, before it needs a touch-up. Whitening fades gradually over several years, faster if you smoke or often drink tea, coffee or red wine.

Brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth, and don't use your teeth as tools. If you grind your teeth, ask about a night guard.

No. Composite changes the colour, shape and size of teeth, but it doesn't move them. If your teeth are crowded, book a consultation anyway and we'll show you which changes composite can make for you.

Usually, if you book early enough. Tell us the date at your consultation and we'll plan your visits around it.
