Understanding Dental Fillings
Importance of Fillings
A cavity may cause symptoms, such as pain or sensitivity, depending on its severity. Other times, a cavity may not present with any symptoms, but can be picked up by your dentist on a routine checkup. It is for this reason we emphasize the importance of regular checkups, as we may be able to save a tooth before symptoms become severe.

Procedure Details
Your dentist will assess the cavity and the tooth to determine the appropriate type of filling for you. Before a filling can be done, local anesthesia may be administered to ensure the patient’s comfort throughout the procedure. The next step would be to sufficiently clean out decay and prepare the space for the filling. Thereafter, the appropriate choice of filling material is placed in the cavity and shaped to the contours of the tooth. The filling would also require adjusting and polishing to ensure a smooth and non-irritating surface and comfortable bite.
