Importance of Dental Consultations
Building Trust and Comfort
Open Communication
During your first consult you can expect your dentist to spend a little extra time speaking with you to allow us to understand your concerns surrounding your oral health. You are to freely express your expectations and fears in a comfortable environment which will help to alleviate dental anxiety. This, in turn, allows for better outcome of your treatments.
Safety comes first
Importance of Regular Consultations
It is specifically for these reasons that you are urged to have regular consultations done- even in the absence of pain. This is especially true for young children. Bringing your child in for their dental visit from a young age and in the absence of pain, will teach them to be confident during these visits instead of growing up with a fear of the dentist. Whether it be routine or prompted by symptoms, it is always best to book a consultation as soon as you can as neglect can be costly in the long run.

Components of a Dental Consultation
A routine consult includes assessment of the teeth, gums and surrounding structures. With the use of x-rays we can pick up abnormalities such as cavities, gum disease, oral infections, growth of new teeth etc. Not only does this allow us to plan your treatment-and will save you time and money, but it also has a preventative advantage in that if there are early signs of abnormalities, eg early gum disease, this can be treated before any damage is done. The consequences of oral conditions being left untreated is potential tooth loss or loss of function of structures. Early detection is key as it saves you from extensive treatments and pain later on. During the consult, your dentist will also be screening you for signs of oral cancer.
